Updating the Primary Parent - Enabling Registration for Another Parent

  1. What does 'Primary Parent' mean?
  2. How can I tell who my youth's 'Primary Parent' is?
  3. How can I change the 'Primary Parent' designation to another parent?

What does 'Primary Parent' mean?

Scouts Canada's registration system, 'Join Scouts', is set up so that only the parent identified as the 'Primary Parent' can finish the registration for their youth. Usually, the 'Primary Parent' is the one who created the account and set up the youth profiles. If both parents have a MyScouts profile, it's possible to switch the 'Primary Parent' role to the other parent, making it easier for them to complete the registration process for their youth.

How can I tell who my youth's 'Primary Parent' is?

On the 'My Family' page in Join Scouts, you'll see a blue icon next to the names of any child profiles where you're listed as the Primary Parent. If you're not the Primary Parent for a child profile, it will show up in grey and won't be selectable.

How can I change the 'Primary Parent' designation to another parent?

To assign the 'Primary Parent' role to another parent linked to your child, select the 'edit' icon next to their name:

Click on the 'Add/Edit Parents' button to skip to the Parent section.

Click on Show Existing Parents to see the Parents that are attached to this child's profile.

Click on the parent's name that you wish to designate as 'Primary Parent' and tick the box to assign the role to them.

Confirm your selection and then

Click on Add to save your changes.

You will be returned to the 'My Family' page and will see that child now listed as a 'child of' your profile and will be unable to select that profile for registration.
