What are the age brackets for each section?
*NOTE:
Beavers can be registered for the new year/season if they are 5 years of age BEFORE the new year begins.
Are section age brackets flexible?
Yes. Parents & the group (Group Commissioners and Scouters for that section) need to agree that including the youth in a section outside of their age range is the best decision for the youth and the group as a whole before the youth is provided with an exception.
How to register youth outside their section age bracket?
Step 1: An agreement needs to be made between parents & the group confirming the youth can join the section outside of their age bracket as a participant.
Step 2: Parents register youth in the section aligned with their child's age. The system will not allow parents to register in any section directly.
Step 3: The Group Commissioner or Registrar logs into MyScouts and goes to the youth's profile page.
From here select 'Contact Info' from the 'Member Options' menu then scroll to the very bottom of that page & see the option to select 'Age Role Exception'. See screen shot for reference. Then Save Changes.
Step 4: Once an exception is made go to the Colony page and select the 'Transfer Participants' tab found in the middle of the page (see screen shot for reference).
Registration for Beavers under 5 years of age
Step 1: An agreement needs to be made between parents & the group confirming the youth can join Beavers at 4 years old instead of the traditional starting age of 5.
Step 2: Parent begins the registration process – setting up a profile for the youth and selected a Section. If the youth is not yet five, parent will get a message that youth is too young.
Step 3: The youth will have the status of Pending instead of Active because registration couldn't be completed. If the youth has been approved to join the Beaver Colony the Group Commissioner or Registrar go into the youth's account in MyScouts and selects 'Contact Info' from the 'Member Options' menu then scroll to the very bottom of that page & see the option to select 'Age Role Exception'. See screen shot for reference. Then Save Changes.
Step 4: The parent can now be guided to log back into MyScouts and complete their youth's registration. They will no longer receive the pop-up saying their youth is too young because the age exception has been completed.
