Wood Badge I for Group Commissioners - My Scouter Development Journey as a Group Commissioner

Once you have completed Scouting Fundamentals, the next step in your Scouter Development journey is to work towards your Wood Badge I learning milestone.

How to access Wood Badge I

From the David Huestis Learning Centre homepage, click on Wood Badge I from the My Courses widget.

You will land on the Wood Badge I Course Home page.

1. My Home will bring you to the Learning Centre homepage.
2. Course Home will bring you to this course homepage.
3. Content will bring you to the course content.
4. Awards will show you the certificates and badges you have earned from completing learning content.
5. Learner Progress will allow you to track the learning progress of other Scouters.
6. Additional Learning allows you to release additional learning content as you prepare for a new Scouting role or if you would like to work towards additional Wood Badge I learning milestones.
7. Useful Links will bring you to resources on Scouts.ca and Help links will direct you to the Help Centre and Online Support Centre.
8. Announcements widget will show you instructions and share important information.
9. Explore My Learning Content widget will allow you to quickly jump to a content topic within the course.
10. Quick access to your Bookmarks.

To get started, click on Content from the top navigation bar.

1. Table of Contents on the left side will help you navigate through the course. The numbers in the boxes next to each Session title tell you how many content topics are outstanding to complete. Use the Table of Contents to jump to various Sessions and topics within the course.
2. Session description will show you the Learning Outcomes for each session and estimated duration.
3. The Progress bar will show you how far you are along the learning for this session.
4. To begin the session, click on a content topic from the list. You will see a checkmark once you have completed the topic.

Content Browser Navigation

When you click on a content object within a course, you will open a content browser. A new window will open with the eLearning Content, once complete you will be asked to close the course window and return to this page.

1. Breadcrumb navigation allows you to keep track and maintain awareness of your locations within the course.
2. Expandable Table of Contents will let you jump to various topics of the course. Click on the arrow to expand the Table of Contents.
3. Topic content area will provide you with instructions on how to access the eLearning content.
   
4. Bookmark topics to save them to your Bookmarks list for quick access or to review later.
   
5. Click on the expanding arrow icon to view content in a new window.
6. When you complete the topic, click on the Forward button to move to the next topic. Use the Previous button to view the previous topic.
7. Activity Details section provides information about the content and/or what is required to complete the topic.

Awards for Wood Badge I for Group Commissioners

You will be awarded a badge for each Session you complete.

IMPORTANT: The system takes a few moments to issue your badge, please be patient.

When you are awarded with a badge for completion, you will see a pop-up notice like this:

To view all of your awards for this course, click on Awards from the top navigation bar.

1. There are two ways to view your awards:
   1. My Awards – shown in the screenshot above.
   2. View Available Awards – display a list of awards with checkmarks beside the ones you have earned. (Screenshot below).
      
2. Use the Search function to filter your awards.
3. Additional filter options allow you to see only badges or certificates and include awards from other courses (i.e.: Scouting Fundamentals).
4. Certificates are issued once you complete the full course. Click on the icon to view completion information and to download a PDF Certificate of Completion.

1. Badges are issued once you complete individual Sessions.
2. Click on the Share link to Share your award to your profile – this will allow your Relationship Manager and Support Scouters easily view your completions from your profile.

	Wood Badge I for Group Commissioners - certificate is issued upon earning all badges below.
	Volunteer Recruitment This award is for completing "Volunteer Recruitment" eLearning session.
	Volunteer Onboarding This award is for completing "Volunteer Onboarding" eLearning session.
	How to Facilitate Scouter Development This award is for completing "How to Facilitate Scouter Development" eLearning session.
	Performance Management This award is for completing "Performance Management" eLearning session.
	Conducting Crucial Conversations This award is for completing "Conducting Crucial Conversations" eLearning session.
	Financial Controls This award is for completing "Financial Controls" eLearning session.
	Planning Cycle This award is for completing "Planning Cycle" eLearning session.
	Volunteer Screening This award is for completing "Volunteer Screening: It's Our Duty!" eLearning session.

The following green awards are part of the Scouters Working Together sessions for Wood Badge I for The Canadian Path.

	How to Engage Parents Competency Statement:  I know how to engage parents/guardians in contributing to their child's development through Scouting.
	How to Fund the Program Competency Statement:  I know how to use Scouts Canada's official fundraiser to fund the program.
	How to Work with the Section Leadership Team Competency Statement:  I know how to apply youth-leadership mechanisms in a Section-appropriate manner.
	How to Plan for Youth-led Competency Statement:  I know how to facilitate youth-led development of monthly, seasonal and annual program plans.
	How to Use the Program Quality Guide Competency Statement:  I know how to facilitate a Program Quality Assessment with a section / Patrol (team).
	Wood Badge I for Group Committee - certificate is issued upon earning all badges below.
	Group Management This award is for completing "Group Management" eLearning session.
	Role & Accountability of Group Commissioner in Committee This award is for completing "Role & Accountability of Group Commissioner in Committee" eLearning session.
	Support Systems for the Group Please Note: This session is currently being reviewed and the content will be updated. At this time, you are not required to complete "Support Systems for the Group" as part of Wood Badge I learning milestone.
	Volunteer Support Strategy This award is for completing "Volunteer Support Strategy" eLearning session.
	Meeting Management This award is for completing "Meeting Management" eLearning session.
	Risk Management This award is for completing "Risk Management" eLearning session.
	Problem Solving, Decision Making and Conflict Resolution This award is for completing "Problem Solving, Decision Making and Conflict Resolution" eLearning session.
	Communication This award is for completing "Communication" eLearning session.

Additional Learning

Additional Learning allows you to release additional learning content as you prepare for a new Scouting role or if you would like to work towards additional Wood Badge I learning milestones.
