How to access Wood Badge l for The Canadian Path
From the David Huestis Learning Centre homepage, click on Wood Badge I from the My Courses widget.
Note: Wood Badge l for Canadian Path is accessible using these directions for Section Scouters. This is because different Wood Badges are required for different roles & the online learning system recognizes which role you're registered in and includes the Wood Badge applicable to your role to be accessed from your home page.

What is Wood Badge l and how does it contribute to Volunteer (Scouter) Development?
Wood Badge is an internationally recognized across National Scouting Organizations around the world volunteer development program focusing on the knowledge and skills needed to implement the Scouting program. These competencies include youth-program facilitation, outdoor skills, Scouter support, risk management and safety.
Wood Badge focuses on helping Scouters acquire basic program facilitation knowledge.
What is the difference between Scouting Fundamentals and Wood Badge l?
Scouting Fundamentals is completed by individuals applying to become a Scouter as part of our Volunteer membership requirements. Scouting Fundamentals is a prerequisite for Wood Badge l.
Wood Badge l is developmental in focus. Scouters are required to complete the appropriate Wood Badge I program by the end of their first year, 365 days from the time the Scouter registers, in the role.
Which Wood Badge l Program should I take for my Scouting Role?
Section Scouters are Volunteers who work directly with youth. This includes Volunteers who work with Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts. Camp Counselors are also considered Section Scouters for the purpose of Wood Badge I.

Group Committee Scouters are Volunteers who fill administrative roles within a Group Committee such as registration, finance or fundraising.

Group Commissioners are the principal point of contact for Scout Groups. They are accountable for executing Scouts Canada's 5 Priorities for Success at the Group level
Group Commissioners complete Wood Badge I for Group Commissioners.

How is Wood Badge l completed?
Wood Badge l for The Canadian Path (WBl CP) can be completed in two ways.
1. Completed in full in the David Huestis Learning Centre via online learning.
2. Scouters can gain the skills for WBl CP in person with their new Scouting team and complete a self-assessment in the learning centre. The self-assessment is not a quiz, it is 14 questions that ask Scouters if they understand the components of Wood Badge. If Scouters confirm the content is understood they are credited with the online learning session that covers that content. When it is voiced by the Scouter that a component is not understood the Scouter is asked to take the online learning session that teaches the content they don't have an understanding of.
When is Wood Badge l completed?
Wood Badge l is to be completed within a Scouter's first year, 365 days from the time the Scouter registers, in order to maintain an active status in MyScouts. If Scouters do not complete Wood Badge l within their first year their status flips back to a pending status in MyScouts until they have completed the screening. Pending means the Scouter is working towards completing volunteer screening, during this time Scouters are unable to participate in Scouting activities.
I am a Section Scouter moving to a new Section, which training will prepare me?
Wood Badge l for The Canadian Path is applicable to all Sections; Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers. Section Scouters who have completed Wood Badge l for The Canadian Path are able to move from Volunteering with one Section freely without being guided to pursue continued eLearning.
If a Section Scouter who is seeking to change the Section they volunteer for has completed a Section specific Wood Badge they can continue with that section as the section specific Wood Badge makes them compliant (e.g. Wood Badge l Pack). If they would like to change the Section they Volunteer with (e.g. Pack to Troop), to prepare for the change, the eLearning that aids Scouter Development is Wood Badge l for The Canadian Path.
Do I receive recognition for completing my Wood Badge?
Yes! Upon completion of 'Wood Badge l for The Canadian Path' a Scouter receives their 'Woggle'.
Your Woggle is presented to you during your 'Investiture Ceremony'.
Upon completion of 'Wood Badge ll' Scouters are formally recognized with the Wood Badge beads, Gilwell neckerchief and Wood Badge certificate upon completion of the Wood Badge II program.
How do section Scouters and Group Commissioners know when Wood Badge l has been completed?
Scouters are awarded a badge for each Session completed.
When you are awarded with a badge for completion, you will see a pop-up notice like this:
To view all of your awards for this course, click on Awards from the top navigation bar.
There are two ways to view your awards:

- My Awards – shown in the screenshot above.
- View Available Awards – display a list of awards with checkmarks beside the ones you have earned. (Screenshot below).
- Use the Search function to filter your awards.
- Additional filter options allow you to see only badges or certificates and include awards from other courses (i.e.: Scouting Fundamentals).
- Certificates are issued once you complete the full course. Click on the icon to view completion information and to download a PDF Certificate of Completion.
- Badges are issued once you complete individual Sessions.
Click on the Share link to Share your award to your profile – this will allow your Group Commissioner and Support Scouters to easily view your completions from your profile.
Group Commissioners and Registrars can see the status of their Scouters screening in MyScouts.
Step1: Go to the Scouter's profile page (use 'Find an Individual' or search through the section)
Step 2: View the middle of their page in the 'My Roles' tab (see screenshot). The last heading is 'Requires' here is where the requirements not yet fulfilled are listed. When they are completed the requirement will disappear until nothing is listed. At this time the Scouter's status will flip from Pending to Active & they will be able to begin Scouting with the group!
Wood Badge II focuses on the practical application of the concepts learned in Wood Badge I. It introduces basic outdoor and Volunteer-support skills.
Wood Badge II has been revitalized to incorporate Canadian Path methodology, making it more relevant for today’s Scouters. The new Wood Badge II program allows for self-directed learning, conducted through mentorship and coaching in addition to traditional courses and workshops. The Wood Badge II framework uses new resources called Scouter Development Cards which can be used to help Volunteers build personal learning plans.
