New Steps for Preparing for Fall Scouting
Please review these steps below and ensure you include them in your planning
1. Help Parents sign-up youth, Rovers sign-up themselves and Scouters renew their role through MyScouts
If parents, Rovers or/and Scouters are having difficulty signing up through the link provided in the email or they have misplaced the email, you can support them by directing them to sign up through MyScouts. All they have to do is click on Sign Up Register once they have logged into MyScouts.
*Found in the top left hand corner of your MyScouts account homepage
This is applicable for current members ONLY. Those listed as Active in their participant or Scouting.
Please note: Sign up for this September for youth who are not youth volunteers is done through the parent's account that was used to create and complete the youth's original registration. Other parents who are connected to the youth's account are unable to complete sign up. The parent who created their child's account and completed registration is called the 'primary parent' in our system.
2. Reporting and Tracking Responses for my Group
Scouts Canada has modified some of the reports you typically use in MyScouts such as the Memberships Listing Report & Membership Summary Report to accommodate the current sign-up process. Follow the steps outlined in this and you will be able to track which participants and volunteers plan to return to Scouting:
- in September,
- in January or
- Not at all.
3. Set your Group Capacity in MyScouts to Prepare for Free Trial
It is critical that as you receive responses for September and January Scouting from participants and volunteers you set your Group’s capacity in MyScouts. This will allow new members (who wish to participate in a Free Trial this fall – to sign up for your group. See the video below for how to do this:
NOTE: All current members in your Group (those that signed up for the 2019-2020 Scouting Year) will receive the opportunity to guarantee their spot for the 2021 Scouting Year – regardless if they are participating in fall Scouting.
Tell me more about FREE Trial
Scouts Canada is excited to welcome more youth to join Scouting and participate in safe and fun adventures this fall. We will accommodate current members first – but anticipate that some families may want to postpone participation until the new Scouting Year in January, for various reasons.
As a result, given that you have followed the above planning steps, your Group should be able to accommodate new participants that would like to give Scouting a try. We believe that with our play-by-play program templates and our safety measures, youth will be enjoying great, safe outdoor adventures this fall.
How do new participants sign up for Free Trial?
Scouts Canada will be opening sign-up for our FREE TRIAL after September 7 when all current members have signed-up for fall Scouting. Free Trial spots are dependent on availability — impacted by returning youth and Scouters. Only with this information can we open free trial spots with confidence to new participants.
A Sign-up button will be available on Scouts.ca/ JOIN page after September 7, 2020.
How will GCs be able to see who has signed up?
New participants will be added to the Membership Listing and Membership Summary Report.
How will Group Capacity be accommodated for Free Trial participants
GCs will need to follow the (above) planning steps (especially Setting up Group Capacity in MyScouts) to allow new participants to sign-up for FREE trial with their Group.
Do participants need to sign the hold-harmless agreement?
We will be modifying the Code of Conduct to include the hold-harmless agreement. All youth members and new participants will be required to sign the Code of Conduct in September through MyScouts.
October 9 – Registration opens for current members for the 2021 Scouting Year
October 23 – Registration opens for Free Trial participants
October 30 – Registration opens to the general public
