Introduction

These are some commonly asked questions for parents new to Scouting.

When does the Scouting year run?

The Scouting year officially runs from September 1st to August 31st .

Most Scouts group run their program parallel to the academic year, starting in September and ending in May or June.

In July and August, many Scouts participate in summer activities that are organized by their local Council office.

How do I find a local Group?

Your local group can be found by visiting the 'Find a Group' locator available on the Scouts Canada homepage at www.scouts.ca.

How do I register my child with the Group?

The primary method for registering is online through the myscouts.ca site.

If you see ‘‘sign in to register” and ‘create an account’ next to the group’s information on 'Find a Group', this means you will be able to register your child with the group online via credit card or Interac.

Please see our guide here for further information on registering online.

Can I drop in on a meeting to see if my child likes it first?

Yes! We generally allow two visits for a child before asking parents to commit and register their child with the group. If you would like to do this please contact the group through Find a Group to arrange.

What is the program, what do the Scouts do during the year?

General information on programs can be found at http://www.scouts.ca/ca/programs

If you want more specific information, we encourage you to contact your local group via the Find a Group page.

How much does it cost?

Please visit the article here for more details on fee structure.

Is there assistance available if I cannot afford the registration fee?

We have a subsidy program called ‘No One Left Behind’, which ensures that children of parents facing financial challenges can still take full advantage of the Scouting program.

For further information on this subsidy, and to inquire about applying, please contact NOLB@scouts.ca.

Is uniform included in membership, where do I purchase uniform?

Uniform is an additional cost to the membership registration fee. For information on cost for new uniform, please check our Scout Shop website.
