What are Parent/Adult Helper Role and the Parent/Adult Overnight Helper roles ?
These roles are temporary additional assistance for Scouters provided by traditionally parents, however, can be other adults connected with youth in the program.
These roles are offered for 5 occurrences total. These are purposefully temporary roles to contribute to our culture of Safety. Scouters are mentors, this means they deliver programming regularly and are in a position where youth view them as adults who they can trust. In order to be in this role they undergo training and screening that includes several steps.
Parent/Adult Helpers & Parent/Adult Overnight Helpers are simply helping out because it's needed, rather than committing to an ongoing role and becoming a mentor in a position of trust. They therefore don't require the same training or screening
For a comprehensive understanding of all volunteer roles reference our Volunteer Screening Procedure.
Parent/Adult Helpers are volunteers supporting the group who attend to assist the Scouters as program instructors, first aiders, etc. This is different than a fully screened Scouter role because they do not count towards Ratio or the Two Scouter Rule.
Parent/Adult Helpers are asked to agree to the Code of Conduct annually they also must have their role explained to all youth.
Parents and other adults who assist Scouters at more than five Section activities must apply to become a registered Scouter, be screened as per the Volunteer Screening Procedure and complete all volunteer screening and mandatory training requirements.
Parent/Adult Helper Role and the Parent/Adult Overnight role can be added by Group Commissioners and Group Registrars.
